Stewart Roberts, Musical Director

Stewart Roberts graduated from Cardiff University, gaining B.Mus. and M.A. degrees in 1995 and 1996 respectively. Whilst at Cardiff he studied piano with Richard McMahon and Dr Caroline Rae, and cello with Chris Hodges. Stewart has performed many piano concertos with various orchestras, by composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg and Shostakovich.
Stewart joined Dowlais Male Choir in April 2000, but previously gained much accompanying experience playing for choirs such as Côr Meibion Ynysowen, Côr Meibion Morlais and the Black Mountain Male Choir with whom he toured the USA for three months in 1997. Stewart was appointed Musical Director of the Choir in November 2002, on the resignation of Gareth Ellis
Also an accomplished cellist, Stewart is a former member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales. He is currently employed by Rhondda-Cynon-Tâf Music Service, teaching piano, cello and double bass on a peripatetic basis. Stewart also makes recordings for S4C television.
